Days after it was the target of a Houthi attack in the Red Sea, a bulk carrier ship has now sunk, with one crew member appearing to have lost their life.
Earlier this month, the Greek owned MV Tutor was struck by an explosive-filled Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV), which is effectively a bomb-carrying drone boat, and immediately started to take on water.
The attack appears to be part of a new escalation by the Houthis and follows a month-long US military led campaign, which has reportedly seen its naval forces take on the most-intense maritime fighting since World War II.
The bulk cargo ship was enroute from Russia to Egypt when it was targeted just south-west of the Yemeni port of Hudaydah. A Filipino crew member has been missing since the attack and, according to a US national security spokesperson, is now presumed dead.
Following the sinking of the Rubymar in March, the MV Tutor has become the second vessel to be sunk by Houthis since the conflict started.
