Like the Asia Europe market, aggressive blanking of sailings from carriers is believed to be the main cause, while the increase in volume since lockdown restrictions were lifted has led to demand outweighing capacity.

Most rates have increased by upwards of $1000 during the past month, meaning that many are double the price of this time last year.

According to some reports, the spike in rates has led to mistrust of carriers, with suggestions that they have been intentionally restricting capacity and overbooking vessels to create the current market conditions.
