UK government have introduced a new scheme that will be replacing the existing UK Trader Scheme (UKTS) for shipments into Northern Ireland from 30th September.
The UK Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS) forms part of the changes being brought about by the Windsor Framework, and will eventually enable shipments to travel through a green lane when entering Northern Ireland. The qualifying criteria will be different to those of the outgoing UKTS, which will mean more companies will be approved.
Customs are requesting that traders complete their UKIMS application by July 31st 2023, which is needed to receive approval before the new scheme officially starts.
While current UKTS approval holders may continue to use the existing scheme, it will not be valid after 30th September and will not be automatically transferred to UKIMS. Therefore, you will need to apply as soon as possible.
The above mentioned green lane is due to be effective from September 30th 2024.
