HM Customs’ export move from the outgoing CHIEF system over to CDS has once more been delayed and the deadline will not be until 30th March 2024.

HMRC confirmed the news in an announcement on the website this week. They further advised that while the vast majority of users will be continuing with CHIEF until March, some high volume declarants will be starting to phase over from this November.

Imports are already handled through the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS), after being transferred from CHIEF in September 2023. At that time, CHIEF exports were planned to discontinue in March 2023.

However, the plan was changed for CDS to take over exports in November, and has been changed again with this recent announcement. Apparently, this is because HMRC have listened to stakeholders feedback and agreed that implementing a phased approach is the best way forward.
