The rush for urgently needed PPE is reducing and with capacity returning to the market over recent weeks, costs are naturally softening. Rates remain a long way above pre-coronavirus pricing but are seemingly heading back towards more sensible levels.

However, rates on the Asia to US market are still spiralling upwards as coronavirus cases in America continue to rise. Sunday marked the 41st straight day that the seven-day average for new daily coronavirus infections in the United States trended upward.

Capacity has been hit by these ongoing problems, as US carriers have been forced to cancel flights, or postpone the resumptions of schedules, to and from Hong Kong recently. Hong Kong announced that all US crew members would need to be tested for Covid-19 on arrival, and potentially face 14-day quarantine.

While the European route is headed in the right direction, both markets are expected to be unpredictable with rates changing on a daily or weekly basis. For more information on current pricing, please contact a member of the Westbound team.
