Ningbo’s Meidong Container Terminal suspended operations yesterday following the outbreak of a covid case.
The terminal is due to be closed until further notice as Chinese officials take a tough stance against the recent rise in the delta variant.
Since the closure, containers have been unable to leave or enter the port and vessel’s have effectively been turned away. The immediate impact will be delays on any consignments that were transiting through the port at the time.
It is difficult to estimate the longer term impact, without knowing how long the terminal will be closed. However, we witnessed major disruption to the whole South China region when Yantian was closed for a period in May.
The regional teams at Westbound are monitoring the situation closely and will update further in due course. In the meantime, if you are concerned about shipments currently moving through the port, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
At Westbound Logistics we pride ourselves in offering personalised and tailored logistics solutions. To find out more please call 01375 800800 or email [email protected].
