Eid Al-Fitr is on the horizon, which marks the end of month-long Ramadan fasting, and numerous countries around the world will be holding public holidays as part of the celebrations.
The biggest Muslim festival of the year arrives on March 31st (subject to the appearance of the moon) and will have an impact on international logistics.
A host of nations, based largely in Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent, will be celebrating for a day or more between March 28th and April 7th.
Over 70 countries have public holidays on March 31st. Around half of these countries take a second day on April 1st and some continue into a third day on April 2nd, while Bangladesh and Indonesia pretty much shut down for the entire working week.
Therefore, exporters and importers need to plan around early cut off times and the potential for shortages and delays in the respective countries during the holiday period.
