Chaos has ensued at the Port of Dover during the past few days, which has had an impact on the movement of goods to and from Europe.
Drivers experienced delays of up to 5 hours, which started on Friday and continued through to Sunday, leading to Dover port declaring a ‘critical incident’. Similar delays were also experienced at Folkestone’s Eurotunnel terminal, as desperate drivers looked for a solution.
The delays have largely dissipated during today, but there are serious concerns that there could be repeats during the summer holiday season.
Dover immediately pushed the blame towards staffing at French immigration, who returned the blame to the port. In all likeliness, additional Brexit checks and extra demand during the holiday season have contributed significantly.
