As things stand, the Felixstowe port strike is still planned to go ahead next week. However, workers from the same union have now voted to strike at Liverpool too.

The Unite union have confirmed that a ballot of its 500 members, that man Liverpool docks, resulted in 99% voting in favour of strike action.

At this point, there are no dates set for the Liverpool strike and the union is now believed to be balloting around 60 port engineers, to establish if they will be joining the dock workers.

The engineer ballot is due to close next week, which seems to make it unlikely that the Liverpool strike will clash with Felixstowe.

Liverpool remains one of the UK’s largest container ports and its services tend to be more aligned with locations West, such as North & South America, rather than the mass market of Asia.

We will continue to monitor the situation and advise on any major updates.
