The European logistics market continues to be challenging due to Covid restrictions, driver shortages and the impact for Brexit, so announcements that additional ferries are due to be added in June should be good news for importers and exporters.

P&O have recently confirmed that the roro vessel ‘Pride of Burgundy’ will be re-joining the route next month after being withdrawn from service due to the pandemic last May.   The vessel can accommodate up to 120 trucks and will operate in ‘freight only’ mode. Based on five trips per day, this will add capacity to the market of around 600 trucks per day.

The announcement from P&O follows news that Irish Ferries have entered the Dover-Calais market, adding their first ferry service from June.

It remains to be seen what impact this will have on the market, as many delays have been Brexit, Covid and driver related, but additional crossings during congested times can only be an improvement.
