Covid outbreaks in Zhejiang province have led to the introduction of new protocols for Ningbo port, which is causing further congestion and major disruption for transport in the region.
Currently, trucks cannot move ‘FROM’ Ningbo to most nearby cities, and while they can move from neighbouring cities ‘TO’ Ningbo, drivers face a 14 day quarantine before being able to return.
Many international bookings are being rerouted through other ports, such as Shanghai, which is putting additional pressure on them ports.
Internal transport and land-side costs are spiralling in some areas, typically roundtrips to and from Shanghai take up to an additional 8 hours. While ocean freight availability and rates, from both Ningbo and Shanghai, are likely to be impacted.
