Air freight from Shanghai and Hong Kong has been impacted by product launches following the Golden Week period, which has effectively led to little space being available right now.

As is usually the case when space is at a premium, rates directly from these airports have risen sharply in the past few days as much space has been block booked in advance.

Right now, alternative air freight routes are being utilised to avoid the inflated costs. Rather than flying directly, there are one stop or two stop services flying over secondary Chinese airports, such as Beijing.

The current situation is believed to be fuelled by the need for large electronics brands to get their new products, such as Apple’s new iphone, into the market ahead of Black Friday and Christmas orders.
