Whilst we have come to live with and wherever possible work around the French pension reform strikes, the country may be set for further travel and transport disruption this weekend.
Unions have called for two strike days, on Friday 28th April and Monday 1st May, and thousands of transport workers, including air traffic controllers, are believed to be joining at least one of the days in an attempt to create widespread disruption around the country.
The dispute over President Macron’s plan to increase the pension age is continuing to simmer. Monday is Labour Day in France, a public holiday where industrial actions are not uncommon, and it seems that protests and demonstrations are expected nationwide.
Therefore, we may see delays to some shipments moving through France during the next few days. This could impact transport to and from other European origins and destinations, with the country being a major gateway between the UK and the continent.
We will be monitoring the situation closely. However, if you are concerned about any urgent shipments, then please do not hesitate to contact us on 01375 800800 or [email protected]
If you have any questions regarding the above, then Westbound are here to help. So, please do not hesitate to contact us.
