Delays for movements through the Californian ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are reaching critical levels right now, with local authorities suggesting using alternative routings where possible.
The terminals have been impacted by record levels of imports from Asia, a shortage of equipment and chassis being available, and the ongoing national driver shortages.
One vessel, which arrived on 23rd October, had still not discharged its containers last night, 10 days after docking.
The situation is a major cause for concern for the online and retail sector. Space issues have already contributed to delays from Asia and with the Black Friday sales less just over three weeks away, some products are unlikely to make store and virtual shelves.
