Next Tuesday is China’s official National Day, a yearly celebration on October 1st that commemorates the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
China National Day is celebrated throughout the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau and public places are decorated with flags and flowers.
Traditionally, the day also signifies the beginning of Golden Week, where the public take seven days holiday that are marked with celebratory fireworks and various activities around the country, most notably in the capital Beijing. The biggest migration of people on earth usually happens before and after Golden Week, as Chinese nationals travel from far and wide to be with their families.
During the week, most factories, businesses and government buildings are closed, which means that the country’s exports virtually come to a halt and this usually ends up with a two week lag in export orders moving out. Carriers arrange schedules around this downturn, which generally means that there is very little movement in transport and logistics during the holiday period and numerous sailings get blanked.
This year’s holiday dates are below and our Chinese Office will be honouring them, with emergency contact available.
CHINA: 1st October – 7th October
HONG KONG: 1st October
