Many of the vessels caught up in the Suez Canal are now arriving at European and UK ports this week and, with so many berthing slots needed over such a short period, we can expect some port congestion and transport issues to follow.

There has been a week of respite, as far as Asia and unloading mega ships is concerned, and many lines have sped up or slowed down vessels to effect more staggered arrival times.

Northern European ports have been warning carriers that there is a limit to capacity, which is already stretched, but how they cope with this influx will have major bearings on global trade. The shortage of empty equipment in Asia has now become critical, therefore businesses around the world will be relying on effective turnarounds in Europe.

While we appreciate that customers are already facing delays due to the blockage, we are expecting further impact over the next two to three weeks.
