BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER / FCL IMPORT OPERATOR

MULTI-MODAL TRAINEE OPERATOR (ROAD / SEA / AIR)

Working Hours : This is a full time position,  5 days per week, 8.00am – 17.00pmLocation: Basildon HQ Office.

Westbound Logistics Services is an award-winning freight forwarder with offices across the UK, China and Europe. We’re growing, and we’re looking for someone to join our operations team as a Multi-Modal Trainee Operator.

This role will start with a strong focus on European road freight support, with the opportunity to develop into sea and air operations over time. It’s ideal for someone who wants to build a long-term career in freight and learn the full picture.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the road freight team with day-to-day operations
  • Assisting with UK and European shipments from booking through to delivery
  • Liaising with hauliers, warehouses, and transport partners
  • Communicating with overseas offices and suppliers
  • Helping coordinate customs clearances with brokers
  • Tracking shipments and resolving any issues along the way
  • Supporting sea freight and cross-trade shipments as you develop

What we’re looking for

  • Some experience in logistics or a strong interest in the industry
  • Confident communication and a good phone manner
  • Organised, proactive, and willing to learn
  • Good attention to detail
  • Comfortable using systems such as Outlook, Excel and Google Docs

Any exposure to customs, Bills of Lading, or freight systems is a bonus, but not essential.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday – 08.00 to 17.00 – 1 Hour for lunch

From time to time, weekend work may be required. This will be kept to a minimum wherever possible and shared across the team appropriately.

Age and experience dependent

Probation: 6 month’s probation, reviewed after 3 months.

There is a chill zone adjacent to the kitchen facilities with TV, pool table, ping-pong table and a table arcade machine and sofa’s. The office is also equipped with showers and an exercise/gym area.

Upon completion of the six month probationary you will be auto-enrolled into a contributory pension scheme, we also provide all employees with access to the NHS Top up health scheme which offers cost savings on various appointment fees. Upon completion of first full year of employment an additional day’s holiday is accrued, this continues up to 25 days where it is capped (this excludes bank holidays).



FCL IMPORT OPERATOR

Working Hours : Monday to Friday – 08.30 to 17.30 – 1 Hour for lunchLocation: Westbound Logistics Services, Basildon Head Office

Westbound Logistics Services are an award-winning leader in the freight and logistics industry, with offices in the UK, China and Europe.

Westbound Logistics is looking for an experienced FCL Import Operator to join our Sea Freight Import department.

This role will suit someone with a strong operational understanding of Full Container Load import movements who enjoys taking ownership of shipments and ensuring cargo moves efficiently from origin through to final delivery.

You will be working closely with overseas offices, shipping lines, transport providers and internal teams to ensure shipments are handled smoothly and in line with customer expectations.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have a solid background in FCL operations and a good understanding of how operational performance supports wider customer relationships and commercial commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing FCL import shipments from origin through to final delivery in the UK
  • Liaising with overseas offices including Westbound China offices
  • Communicating with shipping lines regarding bookings, container availability and schedules
  • Coordinating customs clearance with the customs department
  • Liaising with UK transport providers to arrange final deliveries
  • Liaising with warehouses and third-party facilities where required
  • Understanding the importance of key client shipments and ensuring operational delivery supports commitments made by the commercial team
  • Monitoring shipments and proactively resolving operational issues
  • Supporting the wider import team to maintain smooth workflow across the department
  • Liaising with internal departments including accounts to ensure cargo can be released without delay
  • Maintaining accurate shipment records and documentation including Bills of Lading

Experience & Knowledge

We are ideally looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working in FCL import operations
  • Has a good working knowledge of container shipping processes and documentation
  • Understands the importance of shipping line relationships, container availability and carrier performance
  • Is confident managing shipments independently while contributing to the wider team
  • Has strong organisational and problem-solving skills

Experience with customs entries or import procedures would be beneficial but is not essential.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER / SALES EXECUTIVE

We’re looking for a driven, commercially sharp Business Development Manager / Sales Executive to join Westbound and take ownership of winning new business across our freight forwarding services.

This is a pure hunter role, focused on generating new opportunities, converting leads, and building a strong, profitable customer base.

You’ll be out in the market, opening doors, building relationships, and closing deals across sea freight (FCL/LCL), air freight, and European road freight.

We are looking for a person with a minimum of two years experience and preferably with brokerage experience.

Key Responsibilities

Arrange full loads, part loads and groupage shipments

Liaise with drivers, hauliers, carriers, and warehouses

Monitor shipments, track deliveries, and resolve delays proactivity.

Handle customer inquiries and provide shipment updates from start to finish

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Working Hours : This is a full time position,  5 days per week, 8.00am – 17.00pmLocation: Basildon HQ Office.

Westbound Logistics Services are an award-winning leader in the freight and logistics industry, with offices in the UK, China and Europe. We are seeking a proactive Accounts Assistant to join our expanding team at our offices in Basildon.

This role sits within our Accounts Department and would suit someone with previous experience working in a finance or accounts environment. Previous experience handling receivables and/or payables would be an advantage.

The role will initially focus on credit control, managing and chasing outstanding balances from assigned customers. However, within our accounts team we encourage staff to develop a broad understanding of the department, so responsibilities will also expand into other areas of accounts over time.

You will be working closely with our operations and sales teams as well as other Westbound offices to ensure smooth financial processes across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing and chasing assigned client debts
• Allocating incoming payments to customer accounts
• Processing credit card payments
• Producing daily financial and debtor reports
• Bank reconciliations
• Debt collection via phone and email
• Liaising with our invoice factoring / discounting provider Bibby Finance
• Supporting the accounts payable function when required
• Communicating with operations teams, sales staff and other Westbound offices
• Occasional interaction with our external accountant
• Supporting the wider accounts team with general administrative and financial duties


Experience & Skills

We are ideally looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working within an accounts or finance department
• Has experience with receivables, credit control, or payables
• Is confident communicating with customers and colleagues
• Has good telephone communication skills and is comfortable speaking with clients directly
• Is organised and able to manage multiple tasks within a busy environment

Experience with the following systems would be beneficial but not essential:
